Having decided that we were going to add another bedroom with en-suite to the property, plans were submitted to the council and approved. As part of rainwater management for the extention, I decided to create a rainwater collection system. In my previous house, I purchased a ready made Graf system at quite some expense, in hindsight, I dont think it was very cost effective and it was problematic keeping the water clean to use for flushing and clothes washing. This time I decided I would create a DIY system for just outdoor use.
In order to do this the planning department insisted on soakaway test, to carry away any excess water. this involved digging a large hole in the ground, filling it with water a couple of times and seeing how long it took to empty. The technical name for this is a BRE 365 test.
